We are excited to let you know that we are partnering with Nashville Recording Artist, Michelle Murray and the “My Finish Line” Premiere Movie and Music Tour to promote and share the inspiring story of quadriplegic, Sam Schmidt in “My Finish Line.”

The 2013 “My Finish Line” Premiere Movie & Music Tour is an exciting and unique tour that brings together the mystique of Hollywood, the speed of INDYCAR and the music of Nashville, all for a great cause. The tour will make over 100 stops including R&J Mobility Service and many of the cities that are hosting a race on the 2013 IZOD IndyCar Series. The tour has also teamed up with Landmark Theatres to hold 17 “My Finish Line” Movie Premiere Red Carpet Events throughout the tour and will be making over 75 stops at live music venues across the country. In addition, the tour will also be visiting medical facilities and hospitals to distribute 100,000 FREE copies of “My Finish Line” to our wounded veterans through the “My Finish Line” Supporter Program*.

With employment rates and costs of living with a disability at a constant high, we begin to see the necessity of financial assistance for people with disabilities. Limited physical mobility may make it difficult to find or even keep a job, and the financial burdens that come along with them can be difficult to deal with. On Saturday, July 28, 2012 R & J Mobility Service made history. After 33 years of business, we had our first annual Customer Appreciation Day!

We had a live band- Calamity Jazz. They were WONDERFUL! The crowd really enjoyed the music!

We had about 20 different door prizes you could win ranging from a $25 Visa Gift Card to a Bedside Econorail by Stander to a Toshiba Blu-Ray DVD player! Each person received 5 free tickets they could use to put in raffle boxes for the prizes.

We also had a fundraiser raffle to benefit the ALS Association of Oregon & Washington and the MS Society Oregon Chapter. We raffled off an LG 42″ LCD TV. Tickets were $5 each or 3 for $10. A local customer was the lucky winner!

Vendors such as: Accessible Bowling, Access Technologies Inc., Action Trackchair, the ALS Association and our friend Darrel wtih Big Bear Countree all showed up to be a part of our event.

We also had representatives from BraunAbility and VMI there to answer any questions about their products.

Thank you to our exceptional employees, awesome volunteers, and the best customers a company could be fortunate to have for making our first customer appreciation day possible. We appreciate each and every one you!

Depending on their ability, drivers with disabilities who use a wheelchair have a big decision: Picking an option for getting into and out of the drivers seat of a wheelchair accessible vehicle that best suits their needs.

With a little help from a friend

• With help from a caregiver, family member or friend, many wheelchair users can get from their wheelchair into the driver seat. The helper can stow the wheelchair and retrieve it when getting out.

• Other people with disabilities use a motorized transfer seat or a swivel seat. A transfer seat rotates inside the vehicle and a swivel seat will rotate outside of the vehicle. With or without assistance, the driver moves from the wheelchair to a transfer or swivel seat. Activate the motorized seat to return it to the driving position. Reverse the procedure when getting out.

Both of those solutions can require help. For maximum independence, a lift or ramp is required to first get you into the vehicle.

Lifts:

• Without aid, a motorized platform raises the user and wheelchair to an entry level. A transfer seat base then provides the ability to transfer from the chair in the center section of a van to the driver position.

• They come in platform styles as well as boom lifts, telescoping, light duty lifts and more.

Ramps:

• When a ramp is combined with interior adjustments and power sliding doors, you can enter and drive the van without aid. A button stows the ramp and closes the door.
• With removable front seats, the driver stays in the wheelchair and rolls into the driver position. Or you can transfer to a factory seat with the addition of a 6-way power transfer seat that slides back, turns sideways and raises or lowers you to the optimum transfer height.
