With a left foot accelerator pedal, accelerator functions of the vehicle are converted to left foot use for those with limited or no use of the right foot.
R & J Mobility Service currently offers left foot accelerator pedals manufactured by Mobility Products & Design (MPD) and Manufacturing & Production Services (MPS).
The 3545 Left Foot Accelerator by MPD
The left foot accelerator is recommended by driver evaluators for drivers to accelerate using their left foot. It is equipped with a guard to prevent the driver from inadvertently resting their right foot on the accelerator pedal. The left foot accelerator incorporates a quick release mechanism and is easily removable for ambulatory drivers without tools.
The MPS Quick Release Left Foot Gas Pedal with Pedal Guard
The MPS Quick Release Left Foot Gas Pedal with Pedal Guard allows the driver to accelerate with the left foot. This pedal is installed on the left side and is mechanically linked to the original manufacturers pedal. The Pedal Guard shields the original pedal thereby making it inoperable. This quality crafted pedal is fully adjustable. The lightweight design of the pedal along with its quick release feature makes it quick and simple to remove. The MPS Quick Release Left Foot Gas Pedal with Pedal Guard is a smart choice.
PLEASE NOTE: Prior to installing any adaptive driving equipment, R&J Mobility requires documentation that the equipment is appropriate for the client. The documentation shall reflect the client’s current functional and medical status. The documentation shall include one of the following:
- assessment report from a qualified driver rehabilitation specialist that includes specifications for equipment, modifications, and training;
- properly restricted current driver license;
- experience in operating the equipment to be installed (current customers only).
A left foot accelerator shall only be installed in vehicles with an automatic transmission and only if prescribed by a Driver Rehabilitation Specialist. If there is no CDRS available in the service area then training must be provided by a certified/licensed driver trainer unless the client is licensed or provides documented proof of training on the use of the left foot accelerator. Utilization of a driver rehabilitation specialist is strongly recommended, if available.
Fitting and training by the certified driver rehabilitation specialist or licensed trainer is required for all left foot accelerator applications.
